finaly, the room type, in this game, there's many of them, all of which can lead to a treasure depending on how you act with them, with first off:

they are a health type which doesn't require any container to be added to your health, and will be depleted first before red health, they can be found most of the time trough marked rocks (rock obstacle with a x on their side and a slightly more blue ) and shops which you should upgrade ASAP, since this is where you'll find the most uttility for your pennies, finnaly, black hearts and eternal hearts, the first one works like a soul heart, but once depleted it deals damage to all the enemies in the room, and the other acts like half a soul heart but if you finish the level you're on with it still intact, it will turn into a heart container, important if you play devil or need red health health management is one key element in the binding of issac to get stronger, because extra health could mean playing that sacrifice room or blood machine, which could lead to a snowball effect (you get a penny which gets you 4,5 vots and then you find book of shadows) one important element is learning the different version: the red hearts, most basic version, can only be taken with empty red health container, they will be easier to replenish with the different items giving health, and their increase spawn rate, but it comes with some problem since: like i said, you need red heart container in the first place to make use of it, and taking damage on a floor with an unkilled boss will reduce your chances of finding a special room, effectively killing your plan whether you choose devil or angel, but there's something to remedy to that which are soul hearts. choosing between devil or angel deals is not easy, on one hand, you get extra power quicker, allowing you to still keep up with the first few chapters at the cost of your health most of the time, it's great for consistency, but sometimes you can't even afford it on the other hand, you have angel deals which are always free, but to get them you have to swear by them by not taking any devil deals, and not even looking at what they offer to up your chances, and even then, you have to wait for a second special room to spawn, which can take as long as chapter 4 (womb) if you're unlucky, just to get sometimes an awful item, they have higher highs but lower lows, if you're ok with the gamble, they're for you.

Finally, see how much damage they can afford before dying, this will give you a sense of what to prioritize killing in certain rooms. understanding the enemy is incredibly valuable, it will reduce the damage you take in a room by 90% once you get them, try to learn it even if it makes you take a bit of damage in some of your runs, on the long term you'll benefit from it, first look at their movement patern: are they pursuing me? moving in cardinal direction? teleporting? jumping? static? do they do it with a certain rhythm? after that, you look at their projectiles, if it's in a v shape, a direct shot or a shotgun attack, or other.

that kind of knowledge is what make you win in this game. for exemple the wiz could seem bad at first, giving up confort for a spectral and uttility, but with tiny planet or homing, this basicly becomes a 20/20 with no downside. try using every single item/trinkets at least once, look at what they do, how that could synergyze with others and memorize them for your next run when you inevitably die.
